Choosing the Right French Class

To help you find the right French lessons for your child, EFNY classes fall into two categories:

French for Native / Fluent Speakers

For bilingual children who already speak and understand French comfortably and can follow a French-only class.
Focus: reading, writing, grammar, oral expression, and thematic/cultural subjects taught entirely in French.

French as a Second Language (FSL)

For children who are new to French or still building foundational language skills.
Focus: speaking, listening comprehension, vocabulary building, and confidence through interactive, playful learning.

Classes Offered

French for Native / Fluent Speakers

This class is designed for bilingual children who already understand and speak French. All activities are conducted fully in French and focus on developing clear, rich, and organized oral language. Students learn to listen attentively, understand messages, and respond appropriately. They are introduced to the alphabet, early phonics, and the first steps of reading and writing in French, laying the foundation for confident literacy in both languages.

For bilingual students already reading in English and beginning to read and write in French. Students strengthen reading, writing, early grammar skills, and foundational spelling/conjugation. They also learn to distinguish French from English and understand basic grammar rules.

This class introduces young learners to spoken French through simple, age-appropriate activities. Students learn to express short phrases in everyday situations through stories, creative projects, songs, and games. A gentle and natural introduction to French.

For students who already have basic French comprehension and oral skills. They expand vocabulary and develop language abilities through engaging, playful activities adapted to their age. A lively learning experience that builds confidence and motivation.

EFNY also offers online French classes. If you are interested in this option, please contact efnyinscription@gmail.com.
